Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello everyone!

Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day, so we took advantage of the beautiful message that this holiday has to introduce this special American celebration in our English classes.

Children learned new vocabulary such as family, friends, food, turkey, pumpkin, pie, thankful and celebration. We spoke about what Thanksgiving means and why people take time to appreciate what they have.

We also enjoyed listening to a couple of Thanksgiving songs and dancing playing the “FREEZE” game with a fun Turkey!

We also shared what we are thankful for…

Their answers were sweet, sincere and full of joy. Here are some examples:

  • “Thank you for my family.”

  • “Thank you for taking care of me”

  • “I am thankful for my toys.”

  • “Thanks to my friends because they play with me.”

  • “I am thankful for my teacher.”

  • “I am thankful for my pet.”

  • “Thank you for my home.”

Thanksgiving is not only about food, It is a time to be grateful and think about all the things we have.

This holiday reminds everyone…

to be kind, help others, and appreciate what we have

It is always wonderful to share and appreciate the little things…

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is my house

This is my house

We love our homes! This month, our Primary 2 students have been learning all about the house, its rooms, furniture, and what routines we do in each place of our home.

We’ve explored the parts of the house and objects inside:

  • living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, garden
  • sofa, bed, table, chair, lamp, window

Through songs, drawings, teamwork and oral presentations, children are learning to describe their homes in English.

Examples of sentences we use:

  • This is my house.
  • There is a big kitchen.
  • In the kitchen there is an oven.
  • In the living room there are chairs.
  • In the garden you can see trees, a table and a swimming pool.
  • I sleep in my bedroom.
  • We eat in the dining room.

Students designed a drawing or house plan of their home and did an oral presentation to share with the rest of classmates. Also, we did teamwork helping them to share ideas and practise English together. This way, children are improving:

  • Vocabulary and grammar (there is/there are, prepositions, house and furniture words)
  • Speaking and listening skills
  • Teamwork and creativity

Each child presented their home in English and some of the sentences they practised are:

This is my house. It has a kitchen, a bathroom, and two bedrooms. My bedroom is blue. In my bedroom there is a big bed and a beautiful carpet. I like my living room. I play in the living room with my family.

We are very proud of their wonderful effort and enthusiasm!

Have a nice weekend and see you all on Monday!

Lots of love from: Teacher Bárbara and Teacher Ana

Autumn through colours, songs, and fun!

Welcome to the magic of the new season… AUTUMN!

In Primary 2, we are exploring autumn with our Autumn Wheel! Each student has created their own “Wheel of Autumn” o «Ruleta del otoño» and filled it with drawings that allow them to talk about this season of the year, from the wheel we can make questions, answers and stories about the season: from the weather, colours, clothes or activities that we usually do to animals, food, and nature.

We have been learning autumn vocabulary using flashcards, songs, and games, practicing words like leaves, squirrel, pumpkin, cold, rain or umbrella; and we are able to say sentences more complex such as:

  • In Autumn, leaves fall down from the trees.
  • Leaves change the colour from green to orange, brown, yellow and red.
  • In autumn we can eat pumpkin pie.
  • Squirrels can jump from the tree branches and the collect food for winter

Our classroom is full of music and color! We sing, play, and speak in English while learning about this wonderful time of year. Through our autumn activities, we are enjoying English in a fun and meaningful way.

We also read some books about Autumn and listen with big motivation to know who is the «Leaf Thief»… here we share with you all:

Our favourite song to dance and a game to review vocabulary! Have fun!

Let’s enjoy Autumn together !

“We are each unique and beautiful but together we are a masterpiece.”

¡Gracias! Merci. Xièxiè. Grazie. Shukran. Arigatô. dhanyavād. Gràcies. Danke. Thanks!

Un abrazo,

Now, a bit of an English version…

Dear families,

Today, at Alquería Educación, we joyfully celebrated the Day of Languages, a day that reminds us of the importance of learning languages, but above all, of valuing diversity and interculturality. Each language is a bridge to cultures, ways of thinking, and ways of life, and that is why we embrace the motto:
“We are each unique and beautiful but together we are a masterpiece.”

Thanks to the collaboration of our families, we were able to symbolically travel to different parts of the world and discover traditions, stories, and curiosities that made us learn and enjoy a very special afternoon.

In the first cycle, we “traveled” to Australia and France. Brianna’s dad transported us to Australia with the exciting story of Womba Stew. We even performed a very special spell and learned more about this fascinating country and its animals, which we love so much.

Teo’s family, with Teo as our little chef, whetted our appetites with a delicious French cooking workshop called “Recette de crêpes”. We prepared exquisite crêpes while practicing French phrases and expressions. Chef Teo, together with his mom and dad, made us enjoy a fun and very tasty experience.

Nina and her mom introduced us to the language of the Maldives, Dhivehi, spoken by only about 500,000 people worldwide. Wearing beautiful traditional clothing, they told us about the language’s origins (with influences from Sanskrit and Arabic), its alphabet, and we even wrote our names in it! A truly unique experience. We also loved the fun guessing games with these “teachers in costume.”

Martina’s mom, from Cataluña, shared her language and traditions with us. She spoke in Catalan and revealed Christmas traditions that many of us did not know, such as the curious figures of the caganer and the caga tió, and how they are celebrated during Christmas.

Claudio’s dad brought us closer to his country, Germany, and his language. We learned about the German national football team, its mascot, and discovered some of its most famous monuments, curiosities, and cities.

Our classmates Natalia and Ana Fernández offered us a workshop on Spanish Sign Language. They explained its origins and curiosities, and we learned the dactylological alphabet, so now we can even say our names in sign language.

In the days before the celebration, our students decorated the school with flags, messages in different languages, and lots of colors, as many as there are languages in the world. This way, we continue to value and enrich ourselves through our diversity, which makes us unique.

It was a very special afternoon, full of fun, learning, and cultural enrichment.

Thank you to all the families and students for making it possible.

With love,

Languages Department
