With the drop in temperatures, what better topic to teach than the clothes we need to keep warm when we go out to play?
It is important to teach «functional English» or the words that we use in our daily life. We will be using the words related to how to dress for the cold for months to come.
Here is a song to share at home to practice with these relevant terms!
…and since we are living in «penguin temperatures» here a is fun penguin dance to warm up over the long weekend.
Today in the Yellow class we began discussing Thanksgiving, an important American holiday. We started with the easiest and most relatable aspect of the holiday–the food we eat! So, I explained that on this holiday we have a large dinner with family and friends and the main dish is TURKEY! To illustrate, we drew turkeys!
I traced everyone’s hand on the mirror and we colored the feathers yellow, orange, green and red (our favorite autumn colors!)
Here are some resources to use at home to discuss Thanksgiving!
This year, Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 25th, so we will talk about it more next week!
Happy Turkey Day!
Hello! As you may know from reading Carmen’s blog, in the Yellow class we have spent the past three weeks learning about colors! While there is a whole rainbow of colors to learn, we began with Autumn colors.
However, September didn’t feel very much like autumn, and it felt much more like summer, so we started learning about the color RED using the OLIVIA story. OLIVIA is a pig, who is as active as my «little yellows» and she likes to wear RED, so we read the story and colored her clothes RED.
Here is a link to the story for you to read at home.

After we learned RED, it was time to learn about more colors, this time Autumn colors in the correct season. So, taking advantage of both the YELLOW class name and the YELLOW fall leaves, we began to learn our fall poem. The two colors highlighted in this poem are YELLOW and BROWN.  This week, we’ll add one more Autumn color to our list: ORANGE.
We will continue to practice our poem to help us prepare for the arrival of «Señor Otoño» next week.
We also sang and danced to get into the spirit of the season. You can listen at home by clicking here:
I hope you all enjoy the colors, smells and spirit of the Autumn season!
